Classic Red: An Instant Surge of Life and Sensuality

No matter how cliche', the classic "red lip" has passed the test of time. It is a look that has evolved to suit the changes of a pop culture cult or even a countercultural movement, yet remains valid and flattering to this day. By changing the shape of the red lip, deciding to make it glossy, matte, or somewhere in between, even the manner in which it is applied all change its nature and mood. For instance, a thin, sharp-lined, matte lip can show hostility or respect, while a full, soft-edged, glossy lip can show desire or reservedness; the use of a lip brush to apply the color can represent elegance, while using the color straight from a lipstick bullet can represent rebellion or free-spiritedness.

Today, I experimented with my own take on the red lip, pairing it with a matching nail polish and untouched skin.

Using a "liquid lipstick" by L'oreal in the shade, Scarlet Concerto, I used the doe-foot applicator to create a full and soft-edged bottom and defined top lip while leaving a super-glossy lasting stain, representing a casual take on sorrowful elegance.

Using a nail polish by Dior or short glue-on nails in the shade, Rouge, I left the finish lustrous with a traditional shiny top coat, representing a elegant approach to youthful vividity.

My take on the "Classic Red Look" is one of reserved elegance and approachable timelessness. Experiment with emotion, story-telling, and changing the perception of others towards you and their surroundings through color, shape, application, and light.

Haha... please ignore the "selfie arm" the self timer was being fidgety.
