Inspirations: Sailor Moon Makeup Look (Unisex)

When I was a little boy, I loved Sailor Moon from the bottom of my heart. Sailor Moon is a manga/anime series that was very successful and popular in Japan during the 90s featuring a slightly clumsy young girl who leads a double life as a guardian of the innocent against the evil forces of the "Negaverse".

The storyline is full of stylish costumes, girlish whines, and overly dramatic fight scenes (almost invariably ending in Sailor Moon screaming, "Moon... Tiara... Magic!" and blasting a "Nega-creep" with her boomerang tiara), but I really just fell in love with Sailor Moon's glorification of beauty and justice sprinkled with imperfection. In light of remembering this large part of my early years, I decided to create a makeup look inspired by the show and the main character!

I will break down the look into Complexion, Eyes, and Lips to give a better understanding of how I accomplished this look and why I did what I did!

Complexion
For foundation, I wore a thin layer of CK One 3-in-1 Liquid set with Maybelline FIT Me powder foundation.

For blush I generously applied Lancome Blush in Blushing Tresor to mainly the apples of my cheeks, then blended up the cheekbone for a glowing feminine flush.

Eyes
For eyeshadow, I used three colors from three separate palettes.
Left to Right
Wet and Wild: Walking on Eggshells
Revlon: Free Spirit
Wet and Wild: Art in the Streets
1- A light pinky champagne shimmer for the lid
2- A wash of matte yellow for the crease
3- A matte black used with a damp liner brush for grey cateye

The yellow turns slightly orange when in contact with the champagne color. The glowing eyelid with a golden corona is very Sailor Moon! The black liner adds a nice feminine effect.
For mascara, I used Maybelline Great Lash in Brownish Black and Clear.

For a wide-eyed look, I used an NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk.

This product is very versatile! It can be used as liner for upper lash-line,
but is also soft enough to be used on the water-line!
It can even be blended very easily for a softer effect.

Lips
For lip color, I mixed two products: a Rimmel Matte in 113 and a Chanel Rouge Allure in Extatique. This combination makes a very nude baby pink that is perfect for the innocent and soft sailor moon look!

The look is very soft, yet strong (just like Sailor Moon!). But of course, no Sailor Moon look would be complete without a goldenrod yellow French Tip Nail Art!

Don't forget a cute pink star accent nail!

Sailor Moon is strong yet gentle, beautiful yet understated, and completely full of life and energy! Even today, I am inspired by things that played into my childhood! I always like to say, "Take the best from the past with you, but don't let it enable you to move forward."

I hope you enjoyed this look!
